Fresh water or fashion? Which are you choosing?

Most of us reading this will take access to clean and safe water for granted. If we get thirsty, or need to wash our hands, we simply go to the nearest tap and turn it on. But this is not the reality for everyone. In fact, despite being recognised as a human right by the UN, nearly 1.1 billion people worldwide lack access to clean, drinkable water.

At The Living Tee, we want to change this. We believe that every person should have access to freshwater, and we want to do our part to help make this a reality. Reducing the fashion industry’s consumption and pollution of water is one way to do this.

Did you know that the fashion industry is the third largest user of water globally, after only oil and paper production. And this makes sense, as fashion production relies on water at every step of the way; from irrigation of cotton crops, to dyeing of fabric to make clothes, to washing our clothes once we have bought them.

To try and combat this, The Living Tee creates all of its products from recycled fabric — the cutting waste left over from garment factories in India. On top of this, we sort all our recycled fabric by colour, so no dye is needed in our designs! Considering it takes around 11,000 litres of water to cultivate just one kilogram of cotton, our production method is saving the planet a huge amount of freshwater.

When buying one of our t-shirts not only do you save roughly 2700 litres of water during production, you also help to stop the contamination of freshwater supplies, as no water waste from the dyeing process needs to be disposed of.

As part of our pre-launch initiative, we will be providing clean water and a meal to child in need with every new sign-up at our website: www.thelivingtee.co

Our mission is to help save our water through better fashion practices, and we would love for you to come and join us on this journey (and look stylish while doing so!).
